6. Ellie Eynon
Interviews
Jessica Simpson is
already an
established popstar
with a great career
already under her
belt, but now her
little sister Ashlee
has come up the
ranks with awesome
tune, ‘Pieces of
Me’.
Taking a rockier
edge with her music,
Ashlee’s debut
single is a
must-listen tune.
Totally upbeat and
her voice is edgy
but cute without
being too naïve. She
sounds older than
her 19 years and she
gives her older sis
a run for her money!
Coming soon to MTV
is a
behind-the-scenes
fly on the wall
documentary
following Ashlee
recording her new
album so keep an eye
out for that.
1. Who are your
musical influences
and who are you a
fan of?
I love women of the
80’s like Chrissie
Hynde, Deborah Harry
and Joan Jett. They
could rock out in a
dress and be sexy. I
just love that. I’m
also a fan of Alanis
Morissette, Gwen
Stefani and Fiona
Apple. My tastes are
all over the place,
I’ll go from
listening to Gavin
DeGraw to Marvin
Gay.
2. Any news on a
tour? Will you be
visiting Europe on
tour?
Right now I’m doing
a promotional tour.
I can’t wait to goto
Europe. That is
being set up now.
3. Any plans on a UK
release? Yes ! It’s
in the works.
4. Will you be doing
any promo work in
Britain at all?
Yes I’ll definitely
be out in Britain
and all overseas.
I’m so excited.
5. Do you have a
regular band you
play with? Who is in
the band?
I have a regular
band. They are all
younger guys from
Orange County.
My guitar player has
been my best friend
for four years.
Everyone is really
awesome. The oldest
person in my band is
25. It’s so much
fun. We all have a
good time together.
6. You worked with
some great people on
this album, on
production and
co-writing what was
it like to have such
great names working
with you?
It was so amazing
because this is my
first record. I feel
very fortunate to
work with those
people especially
Benji from Good
Charlotte and John
from Goldfinger. The
producer of my
record, John Shanks
was incredible. We
had really great
chemistry. I feel
very lucky!
7. Are any of your
songs a personal
favourite? Why is it
your favourite?
It’s ‘Undiscovered.’
Every time I sing,
sometimes I’ll cry.
It touches me. It’s
so real to me. I
wrote the lyrics as
I was on the mic.
8. On your website,
you look just like
Uma Thurman in 'Kill
Bill' (I'm guessing
this was the aim!)
but what is your
personal image
really like? Do you
have a certain style
in your clothes
etc.?
Starts laughing. I
wanna be Uma! That
yellow jacket was
funny. I don’t have
a certain style of
clothes. I just like
to take chances with
them. I’m sure I’ll
end up worst dressed
sometimes. It’s
about taking
chances. I love
vintage clothing
too.
9. You've done quite
a bit of acting so
far, does your music
release mean you're
acting career is now
on hold or will you
be returning?
Acting is my first
love. I am really
enjoying the music
part right now but I
will always do
things like ‘7th
Heaven.’ It’s funny
cause Jess is doing
acting for the first
time and I’m doing
music so we sort of
switched. It’s
really great. There
are a couple of
acting jobs for next
year that I’m
working out but I
can’t say what they
are yet!
10. I've heard
you'll be doing your
own MTV show; will
it be anything like
'Newlyweds'?
Actually it’s more
the making of the
album which is
great. It really
captures that time
period for me. You
see me dating boys
and hanging out with
my friends. It’s a
little hard to watch
yourself on camera
right now especially
cause it’s a reality
show, but I think
I’m really going to
be happy that time
period was captured.
11. You're image is
a little more
rock-chick than
Jessica's 'poppy'
image. Does this sum
up your individual
personalities as
well as you're
music?
Absolutely. We both
have very different
styles and
personalities. I
think the way you
dress is a way of
expressing yourself.
I dress a little
more bright and bold
which is a little
more rock.
12. Do you have a
concern about just
being compared as
'Jessica's sister'?
It’s a compliment.
She’s got some set
of pipes on her so
I’d rather be
compared to her than
anyone else out
there. Plus, she is
my sister and I
really love her.
Once people listen
to the music they
will see how
different our sounds
are and being
sisters is the only
reason to compare
us. My sound is much
more rock and her’s
is more pop.
Many thanks to
Ashlee for giving
this interview.
