Simpson Gets Back To
Ballet |
Singer ASHLEE SIMPSON still
dreams of becoming a
ballerina and has installed
a "ballet bar" in her home.
The pop star sibling of
JESSICA SIMPSON, 21, was
once the youngest student
ever accepted at the School
Of American Ballet, but
dropped out to concentrate
on her singing career.
Now, she's planning to don
her tutu again, after
setting up a small dance
studio in her Hollywood
home.
She says, "I have to say I'm
not very good. It's been a
while, but it's fun."

"Just Friends" Rips Off
Simpson, Carrey, Stiler |
Anna Faris' portrait of an
idiot pop star in "Just
Friends" is absolutely,
positively not ripping on
Ashlee Simpson. Yeah, right.
Faris, who said she
absolutely, positively was
not doing a devastating
caricature of Cameron Diaz
in "Lost in Translation,"
nails another mean parody in
"Just Friends." She plays a
singer who cannot stay on
key, cannot stop fondling
her own peroxide-damaged
hair, cannot deal with real
people and cannot stay
focused on any topic unless
it's herself. Oh, Faris
namechecks Simpson (and her
sister) to make sure it's
legally clear she's not
doing Ashlee, but methinks
the dimwit doth protest too
much.
If only the movie were about
her. Instead, she's on the
sidelines while "Just
Friends" focuses on the
"Shallow Hal"-ish tale of a
guy who was heavy in high
school and has returned,
buff and successful, to take
another crack at the girl
who wanted to be just
friends 10 years earlier.
He's played by Ryan
Reynolds, who turns his Jim
Carrey knob up to 11, trying
to get laughs out of a
character who's a creep one
minute and a sweetie pie the
next because the only way
"Just Friends" can whip up
any suspense about whether
he'll get the girl is by
making us wonder whether he
deserves to.
The genial Reynolds isn't
terribly funny here, but he
is terribly bruised. I guess
that means he also channels
Ben Stiller, since most of
the movie's humor involves
placing him in humiliating
or painful situations and
letting the contusions fly.
That's worth some laughs but
not nearly as many as the
movie thinks.

Ashlee Simpson Sings At
Tuscon Benefit For Homeless
Youth |
A group of Tucson high
school students scored a
coup this weekend when they
recruited pop singer Ashlee
Simpson for a concert
benefiting local homeless
youths.
Simpson performed yesterday
at the Tucson Convention
Center benefit for Our
Family, a local nonprofit
that supports the homeless
and poor.
Local high school students
belonging to TEAM Tucson
organized the event and
hoped to raise $35,000 for
the charity. TEAM stands for
Teen Empowerment and
Advocacy Movement.
Josh Offenhartz is a
17-year-old junior at Sabino
High School in Tucson. He
leads the group and met
Simpson.
Offenhartz said Simson was
exited to perform in a
benefit for such a good
cause.

Ashlee Simpson's Ex
Dating Veronicas Singer |
|
Ashlee Simpson's ex Ryan
Cabrera has fallen for
Aussie pop star Lisa
Origlasso after romancing
her in his new video. The US
pop pin-up first noticed
Origlasso, one half of
sibling group The Veronicas,
when he spotted her in one
of her music videos and he
pursued her to support him
on tour and then appear as
his love interest in a
video. And now US
publication In Touch reports
Cabrera flew to Australia at
New Year to ring in 2006
with his new girlfriend, who
turned 21 on Christmas Day.
Origlasso says, "He hasn't
been to Australia before, so
it's really exciting."

Ashlee Simpson, Rod
Stewart Rule Album Charts |
Ashlee Simpson and Rod
Stewart led the U.S. pop
charts on Wednesday,
although sales of their new
albums were considerably
lower than those of their
previous releases.
Simpson logged her second
consecutive No. 1 with "I Am
Me," her sophomore Geffen
Records effort, which sold
220,000 copies in the week
ended October 23, according
to Nielsen SoundScan.
The pop singer's 2004 debut,
"Autobiography," started
with 398,000 copies and has
gone on to move 2.9 million.
Nonetheless, in just six
weeks, the new album's first
single, "Boyfriend," is a
top 25 track on the
Billboard Hot 100.
